How will the 99ers proceed in the New Year? Their efforts must be ramped up by going directly to their congressman/woman and senator’s office within their state. Governors have more power than you think because they can directly communicate with officials in DC. Your local media such as newspapers, news stations and radio stations are a great source to get your story out. It is very important to put more human faces on the plight of the 99ers in 2011.
President Obama said his New Year's resolution is to grow the economy, create jobs and strengthen the middle class, he warned us about the economic recovery will be fragile in 2011. He did not include any focus on the 99ers and this is unacceptable.
What’s next? Well silence is not an option. The 99ers will never get ahead on their plight if we do not get the media involved. Groups of 99ers interviewing together would get even more attention. I spoke to a reporter out in Washington State and he told me the problem is not enough 99ers have come forward to tell their stories. Guess what, the local media are very interested in the 99ers, so it is time to step out of the shadows and reveal ourselves in 2011. The only way is to rally the country behind us as soon as congress and the senate return from the holiday break. It is equally important to continue the faxes, phone calls and emails to the media, president, governors, senators and congress. Never let up for one moment. At one time I even had an idea for all 99ers to mail your resumes to your elected official with a note on it asking “where are the jobs?”
It is not impossible for the 99ers to get what they want, but it is important to do something that is going to create an impact on the public and Washington, DC. Many people cannot travel to The Capitol for protest due to a lack of funds and resources. So, it is important to be strong on a local level this year. Who are your elected officials? If you don’t know, find out by looking in the local newspaper, phonebook or locating them online. Now you must be even more aggressive in getting the word out in regards to your situation. If we don’t make an effort to ramp up the pressure in 2011, all will be lost. Can this work? Absolutely! It is very important for the 99ers to keep the pressure on every day and not let up.
When the President mentions job creation, we must group together and ask about extended unemployment benefits. After all you must survive with some finances until those jobs are created. There are over five million 99ers and job creation will take years before we have any chance of seeing results. In the meantime a tier 5 is the only way to keep people afloat. It is time for these politicians to stop mentioning job creation like a new fashion crave. This is your life and the people we elect into office must held accountable. The 99ers must demand results from them this year, your life dependents on it. Whenever an elected official speak of their plans for 2011 and fail to mention the 99ers, it is time to jam the phone lines, contact the media and protest locally. This Washington, DC exclusion of the 99ers is not acceptable. You must start demanding the attention you deserve.
As we move forward with a republican congress in DC, just remember that millions of 99ers can change the landscape of the agenda. You can still make a difference.
